Dimitri is Canada’s leading plaintiff-side securities class action litigator. He also represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including shareholder disputes and dissent proceedings.

For 15 years, Dimitri has been at the forefront of securities class actions, having successfully argued precedent-setting decisions and secured landmark settlements for investors.

Dimitri has been lead or co-lead counsel in the following class actions, among others:

  • a securities class action against CannTrust Holdings Inc., its directors and officers, auditors and underwriters;

  • a securities class action against Sino-Forest Corporation its directors and officers, auditors and underwriters which settled for $155 million;

  • a securities class action against SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and its directors and officers which settled for $110 million;

  • a securities class action against Manulife Financial Corporation and its officers which settled for $69 million;

  • securities class actions against FMF Capital Group ($29 million settlement and corporate governance reform); Gildan Activewear (US$22.5 million settlement); Southwestern Resources Corp. ($15.5 million settlement); Arctic Glacier ($13.75 million settlement); CP Ships ($12.8 million settlement); PetroKazahkstan ($10 million settlement); Royal Group Technologies ($9 million settlement); and CV Technologies ($7.1 million settlement); Research in Motion ($5 million settlement and corporate governance reform); and Ensign Energy Services ($4.4 million settlement).

Dimitri was counsel to investors in the first class action settlement of a statutory secondary market misrepresentation claim and the first insider trading and options-backdating class action in Canada.

In August 2013, Mr. Lascaris was named by Canadian Business Magazine as one of the 50 most influential people in Canadian business, describing him as “the fiercest legal advocate for shareholder rights." August 2012, Mr. Lascaris was named by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of the 25 most influential lawyers in Canada.
